A Closed Loop Ground Source Heating & Cooling System for a large office/industrial building funded by AXA Sunlife Pensions Management on behalf of Ascom Hassler (UK).
This was initially conceived as an institutional standard comfort cooled office building using proven chilled water of direct expansion technologies.
However Applied Energy brainstormed the design and considered that the predicted heating and cooling load profiles were such that a geothermal solution would achieve higher overall efficiencies.
In conjunction with Temperature (now Clivet Ltd) and Grunholland, a geothermal heating and cooling scheme was devised to suit both the tenant and fund's requirements.
The scheme initially met with scepticism but after careful presentations by the team, approval was given and the project was successfully completed in August 2000. See Closed Loop Geothermal Heating & Cooling Technology at the end of the document.
