Natural Ventilation and Night Cooling A retro fit installation comprising passive natural ventilation system automatically controlled via Trend BEMS to provide night time cooling for WH Smith.
Applied Energy brainstormed the possible design solutions and in view of the unusual architectural design persuaded WH Smith that a scheme of natural passive night time cooling would achieve their requirements. The project was completed in 1999 to the customer's requirements. This has enabled WH Smith to avoid significant environmental impact that would otherwise have resulted from a conventional solution to the business need.

was initially conceived as a traditional retrofit of proprietary comfort cooling equipment to offset the heat gain and uncomfortable working conditions as a result of increased office staff densities at WH Smith's head office in Swindon.
